Alanya’s Tourism Image at Risk: Aggressive Sales and High Prices Frustrate Tourists!

Şevki Taç, President of the Cleopatra Hoteliers Association, stated that aggressive sales tactics (known locally as "hanutçuluk"), long transportation times, and economic difficulties are affecting tourist satisfaction in Alanya, one of the world's most popular travel destinations.

Complaints from tourists visiting Alanya are becoming increasingly visible each year. Aggressive street marketing, lengthy travel from the airport, and rising costs are among the main issues negatively impacting visitors’ experiences. Taç emphasized the need for collective action to protect Alanya’s reputation as a tourism hub.

“AGGRESSIVE SELLING HARMS ALANYA”

Taç stressed that street hawking in particular seriously damages the city’s image, saying: “All authorities in Alanya must be on the same page and take urgent deterrent measures against this. It is incompatible with the city’s hospitality culture. Disturbing tourists doesn’t just affect the individual but also damages the perception of the entire city. This beautiful city deserves proper recognition in every sense.”

AIRPORT DISTANCE AND HIGH PRICES WEAR TOURISTS OUT

Taç also pointed out other major complaints: economic hardship and the long journey from Antalya Airport to Alanya. “Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do about the transportation problem; the only solution is for the highway project to be completed as soon as possible. As for the economic crisis, we hope inflation will drop soon,” he added.

“WE MUST ACT TOGETHER”

In conclusion, Şevki Taç reminded that Alanya is a globally known destination and said: “If we want to improve tourist satisfaction, we must solve these problems together. Alanya is a city watched by the world, and we must all protect it.”
