The wheels have stopped turning in Alanya: Hotels are going bankrupt!

Hotel Sector in Alanya in Crisis Due to Rising Costs and Limited Access to Credit

The tourism sector in Alanya is facing tough times. Midway through the season, occupancy rates remain below expectations, while hoteliers struggle with rising costs and increasingly limited access to financial resources.

Eray Erdem, President of the Alanya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ALTSO), made notable remarks on the situation during the “Haberin Manşeti” program aired on Alanya Posta TV.

"Profit is necessary for the wheels to keep turning"

Erdem pointed out that even with a 5-10% increase in tourist numbers, it won't be enough to save most businesses:

"Even at full occupancy, hotels can’t make a profit with current prices. Most facilities were built with investment loans. If they can't repay, survival is impossible."

"Access to financing is critically limited"

Stating that banks are also struggling and credit funds are drying up, Erdem warned:

“We’re at the start of the season, yet we’re already seeing bankruptcies. That’s dangerous. We call on financial institutions: we’re all in the same boat — we must support each other.”

"Alanya has lost its high season edge"

Erdem said that despite being in July, hotels are selling at May-June prices, and profitability is weak:

“High tourist numbers don’t mean high income. We’ve lost the valuable tourist profile that added real value.”
