Antalya, Istanbul, Adana... Are Wholesale Markets Opening to Consumers?

Call for Wholesale Markets to Sell Directly to Consumers Grows
Despite falling farmgate prices in major cities like Antalya, Istanbul, and Adana, consumer prices in supermarkets remain high.
Market heads blame unregulated direct sales bypassing wholesale markets and unchecked profit margins of intermediaries.
Numan Duyan, head of the Istanbul Wholesalers’ Association, stated that many prices are deliberately underreported to lower tax withholdings, masking the true cost.
Nevzat Akcan (Antalya) and Mahsun Doğan (Adana) warned that rising input costs and low product prices are forcing farmers to quit production.
Their solution: Open wholesale markets directly to consumers to stabilize prices and ensure fairness for both producers and the public.
